COLINUS

(1884-1966) 

A French painter known for his unique synthesis of the teachings of Fernand Cormon and André Lhote. 

He studied at the Académie de Montmartre under the tutelage of Lhote, where he learned to simplify forms and developed his artistic style. Colinus exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Indépendants from 1925 and became known for his personal interpretation of his mentors' teachings.In 1931, Colinus traveled to the Mediterranean with his wife, the painter Renée Unik. They spent time together exploring the shores and Colinus painted a landscape that was later exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants the same year. The couple remained close and often collaborated, with Unik specializing in portrait paintings.In 1956, Colinus spent the summer in Martel, Lot, in a villa with a garden where he painted a portrait of his wife seated behind her easel. Throughout his career, Colinus remained close to his artistic roots and was praised by critics for his unique approach to painting.Colinus passed away in Paris on August 18, 1966, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional artistry and a distinctive style that will always be remembered by those who appreciate the beauty of his works.
