Auguste

DURANT

ROSÉ

(1887-1962)

Auguste Durand-Rosé was a French painter born in Marseille.

He began his artistic training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille and later became a teacher there. Durand-Rosé moved to Paris, where he exhibited his works in numerous galleries and became friends with some of the most prominent artists of his time, such as André Derain, Maurice Utrillo, Maurice de Vlaminck,Othon Friesz, Moïse Kisling, and Albert Marquet. Durand-Rosé was particularly interested in capturing the atmosphere of the places he painted, rather than creating precise representations. He was known for his bold use of color and loose brushwork, which gave his paintings a lively and spontaneous quality. Despite his association with the Fauvist movement, Durand-Rosé's style remained distinctive and unique. His works can be found in major museums and private collections around the world.
